New South Wales (NSW)
CPD is mandatory for:
- Class 1 Agents
- Class 2 Agents
CPD Requirements for Licensed Agents
Licensed agents must complete 5 hours of training each CPD year on compulsory topics relevant to their specific licence class. These 5 hours must include a minimum of 4 compulsory topics aligned with your area of practice. This represents an increase from the previous requirement of 4 hours for the 2023–2024 CPD year.
Changes to Electives and Business Skills Topics
There is no longer a requirement to complete elective or business skills topics, provided the compulsory training is delivered in an interactive environment, such as an in-person classroom or an interactive webinar.
Delivery Requirements for Compulsory Topics
Compulsory topics must be provided by a training provider approved by the Strata and Property Services Commissioner. Approved providers are listed below. Training must be delivered in one of the following formats:
- Face-to-face interactive sessions (up to 40 participants)
- Interactive webinars (up to 25 participants)
- Additionally, all training must include an assessment activity.
- Alternative Online Training Option
- If you are unable to complete the 5-hour interactive training, you have the option to complete 10 hours of CPD through online modules. This must include all compulsory topics relevant to your licence class, supplemented by additional training of your choice to reach the 10-hour total.
Requirements for Licensees-in-Charge
Licensees-in-charge are required to align their CPD training with the agency’s training plan. The topics selected should focus on areas most relevant to their role and responsibilities.
Additional Training Topics
We can provide you a list of recommended topics to offer who wish to complete more than the required 5 hours of compulsory training.
ACT CPD Requirments
Under the Agents (Continuing Professional Development) Guideline 2022 (No 2), licensed agents are required to meet specific Continuing Professional Development (CPD) obligations to maintain their licences and ensure they remain up-to-date with industry standards and best practices.
Key Requirements for Licensed Agents:
- Complete 12 CPD Points Annually
- Agents must achieve 12 CPD points within the 12-month period leading up to their licence renewal date.
- CPD points are designed to enhance professional knowledge, skills, and competencies in areas critical to real estate practice. These areas may include legal compliance, ethical conduct, customer service, and industry-specific updates.
- The points are typically earned through approved training activities, workshops, seminars, webinars, or other learning opportunities tailored to the agent’s role.
- Maintain Accurate Records of CPD Training
- Licensed agents are responsible for keeping a CPD log that documents all completed training activities.
- The log should include details such as:
- The date and duration of the training
- The name of the training provider
- The specific topics covered
- The CPD points allocated for each activity
- Maintaining these records is not only a regulatory requirement but also serves as evidence of compliance in the event of an audit or inquiry by the licensing authority.
Why CPD Compliance Matters:
- Renewal Eligibility: Agents must meet the CPD requirements to renew their licence each year.
- Professional Growth: Regular CPD ensures agents stay informed about legislative changes, market trends, and emerging best practices.
- Enhanced Credibility: Demonstrating a commitment to continuous learning builds trust with clients and reinforces professional reputation.
Agents should proactively plan their CPD activities throughout the year to ensure compliance and avoid last-minute challenges before licence renewal deadlines.
